Final Song Choice Q&A

1.       Who will be our target audience?
Our target audience is aimed at the ages of 15-28. We are aiming at males and females- we wanted our audience to be broad. This conclusion helped us in ideas as we looked at other bands/artists e.g. Swedish House Mafia and that gave us inspiration in ways of incorporating certain elements to attract a more broader audience. We are targeting an audience that like to go to music festivals and music is a very important part of their life.

2.       What genre of music is our chosen track?
Our genre that we have chosen to do is drum and bass. We chose to do this as we wanted to do more of a concept style to our video; we didn’t want to do the typical ‘girl meets boy and falls in love’ narrative style. We wanted our video to be unique and creative- so we thought concept would be a good style to do. The reason why we chose drum and bass as a genre as it is very influential and it can symbolise many different things. Also the pace of the music varies from fast to slow- this allows us to experiment with different camera shots and ideas.

3.       What conventions does this style of music use in its videos?
The conventions that these styles use are a range of different camera shots with a diversity of different paces. They also usually have bright lights in them and are normally situated at a party or in a club. This part of the video will be difficult to do as we would need a lot of people, props, and time to complete it. Other conventions that they use are the music bars that move up and down depending on how deep or high the music goes. Most of these conventions will be used in our video as then people will be able to recognise what genre the music is and also the style of music.

4.       What type of music video will you film?
The type of music video that we are going to film is mainly concept with some hints of performance. We thought that this would be ideal to do as it is unique and also it gives us a chance to be more creative and abstract with our ideas and combine them into our music video. As a group we didn’t want to do the traditional ‘girl meets boy and falls in love’ drama; we want our video to be different and creative.

5.       Describe the characters in your music video.
The characters in our music video are going to be quite casual, with jeans and a top. Although they will have some iconography; such as tattoos or their hat will be an iconography that the audience will be able to recognise. However, our characters (our band) will not be featured a lot on our video, yet their mise en scene will still be very important as it will attract the audience.

       6. Where will you film your music video?
For our music video we will be filming it at parties and one of our main scenes where our ‘warrior girl’ is walking down the street- that will be film down roads to show her independence. The setting for our music video is very important as the genre of our music video is drum and bass, so ideally and conventionally we should show people dancing and having fun. Parties and clubs would be the ideal place to do this. We do know that this could be hard to achieve as we would have to go to quite a few parties to do this, or we could arrange our own one but that would need a lot of time to organise and prepare.

        7. What type of media institution will show your video?
Some institutions that would show our music video is channels such as MTV this is because they show and advertise a variety of different music genres and they also have their own music channel to broadcast drum and bass music; ‘MTV ROCK’ and ‘MTV DANCE’. Also other channels such that could be used are ‘Q’ and ‘Kerrang’ as they also advertise music of this genre.

          8. How do media technologies affect the consumption of music videos?
Media technologies affect the consumption of music videos because years ago, they didn’t have the technologies that we have today. Therefore today we can watch music videos on the television and many other technologies therefore the majority of the people can watch the music videos.
