Big Budget Videos VS Small Budget Videos

Judas by Lady Gaga VS The Suburbs by Arcade Fire

Judas:
Co-directed by Lady Gaga and Laurieann Gibson
Lady Gaga & Laurieann Gibson
Producer- Lady Gaga and Nadir Khayat (Red One)
Nadir Khayat is a Moroccan producer and song-writer. Nadir also worked with Enrique Iglesias, Nicole Scherzinger and Jennifer Lopez. Khayat had received 4 Grammy nominations this year.
Nadir Khayat
Institution- Interscope Records is an American record label, owned by Universal Music Group
Budget- $10 million
The meaning of the video is shown to be a modern-day Jerusalem. Lady Gaga plays Mary Magdalene, leading the people into the town where Jesus is. Beginning with the motorcycle scene, she is happy riding with the Jesus- the man with the crucifix crown (representing good/heaven.)Then Judas (the man with black sunglasses) comes along and seduces her into the dark/satanic side.
I think that the reason why it was such a big budget is because Lady Gaga is a huge star and celebrity and also the theme and the meaning of the lyrics asked for a big budget video for it to get its message out.

The Suburbs:
Director- Spike Jonze
He had also directed videos for Bjork, Jay-Z and Tenacious D
Spike Jonze
Producer- Arcade Fire

Institutions-Mercury Records
They also signed other artists like Pixie Lott, Chase and Status and Noah and the Whale
Budget-Even though I couldn’t find the budget for this video, I know that it would be small because Arcade Fire is an independent band, therefore they wouldn’t be able to spend a lot and also in the video you can tell that a lot wasn’t spent.
Band members Will and Win Butler spoke on US radio station, saying that the title for the album was inspired by their upbringing in Houston.
They said, "Will and I were born in a really small town in California, on the Nevada border," Win explained. "Maybe 50 people on the side of a mountain. We moved to the suburbs of Houston when we were young. Being a very young child, it's like going to Mars or something”.
